LegalPrivacy Policy.
Our preliminary privacy policy for shermanoaks100.example. This is a community-led, informational website — we try to collect as little as possible and use it only to communicate with you.
1. Who we are
"Sherman Oaks 100" refers to the volunteer Sherman Oaks 100 Centennial Committee operating this website at the domain hosting these pages. We are a community-led, volunteer-run group celebrating the 100th anniversary of Sherman Oaks (1927–2027). We are not a government entity.
2. What this site is
This website is primarily informational. It exists to share centennial news, events, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, historical content, and ways for the community to participate. We do not run advertising on this site, do not sell user data, and aim to keep the site simple and privacy-respecting.
3. Information we may collect
Information you give us. If you fill out a contact form, volunteer form, sponsorship interest form, or newsletter signup, we receive the information you submit (typically your name, email address, and any message you choose to include). We use this only to respond to you or send you updates you've asked for.
Information collected automatically. Our site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like most web hosts, GitHub may log standard request data (IP address, browser/user agent, requested page) for operational and security purposes. We may, in the future, add a privacy-respecting analytics tool (such as Plausible or Fathom) to count visits — if and when we do, we will update this policy to say so.
Cookies. The site itself does not currently set any cookies. Embedded third-party content (e.g., a Google Map, a YouTube video, a newsletter form) may set its own cookies; in those cases the third party's privacy policy applies.
4. How we use information
- To respond to your messages or inquiries.
- To send you updates you've subscribed to (e.g., the newsletter).
- To coordinate volunteer opportunities or sponsorships you've expressed interest in.
- To improve the site and its content.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We do not share it with third parties except in the limited cases below.
5. Sharing
We share information only with service providers we rely on to operate the site or our communications (for example: an email tool like Mailchimp or Beehiiv for newsletter delivery; a form service like Formspree or Google Forms for receiving submissions). These providers may process the information you submit on our behalf, subject to their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or with your explicit consent.
6. Third-party content
Where the site embeds third-party content — such as Google Maps, YouTube or Vimeo videos, or social-media widgets — those services may collect data subject to their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with.
7. Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email. You can ask us to delete information you've submitted by writing to hello@example.com. We will do our best to honor reasonable requests promptly.
8. Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Security
No website can guarantee perfect security. We make reasonable efforts to protect the information you share with us, but we cannot guarantee it will never be intercepted or accessed by unauthorized parties. Please use good judgment about what you share online.
10. Changes
This policy may change as the centennial project grows or as the tools and services we use evolve. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We may also post a notice on the site for significant changes.
11. Contact
